SEOUL, May 7 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating fell to 67 percent after remaining at a record high of 69 percent for three consecutive surveys, a biweekly poll showed Thursday.
In a National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from Monday to Wednesday, negative assessment of Lee inched up 2 percentage points to 23 percent compared with the previous poll conducted two weeks earlier.
Lee's approval rating reached 69 percent in the fourth week of March -- the highest level in NBS polls since his inauguration in June last year -- and remained at that level for the following two surveys before falling 2 percentage points to 67 percent in the latest poll.
The same survey showed that the ruling Democratic Party (DP) is leading the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) by 28 percentage points, in terms of approval ratings, ahead of the June 3 local elections.
Support for the DP fell 2 percentage points to 46 percent from the previous survey, while backing for the PPP rose 3 percentage points to 18 percent.
On the upcoming June 3 local elections, 54 percent of respondents said voters should support the DP for stability, while 32 percent said they should back the opposition to keep the government in check.
The survey was conducted by pollsters Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research on 1,001 people aged 18 and older.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
