SEOUL, May 7 (Yonhap) -- Netmarble Corp., South Korea's mobile game developer and publisher, said Thursday, its net income shot up 163 percent from a year earlier, on new games released this year.
The company reported a net income of 210.9 billion won (US$145.2 million) in the three months ending in March, according to its regulatory filing.
Operating profit for the January-March period also rose 6.8 percent on-year to 53.1 billion won.
Its quarterly sales, of which 79 percent came from outside South Korea, increased 4.5 percent to 651.7 billion won.
The game developer attributed its quarterly results to two new games it launched last month, including StoneAge: Idle Adventure, a mobile role-playing game.
Profits from selling the company's property were also reflected in the on-year jump in net income, the company added.
Netmarble said it expect growth momentum to accelerate in the second quarter, as it is scheduled to release the highly-anticipated SOL: enchant, its new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), in June.
